SW Steelers travelled to Wintringham School to take on Buddies A, who were last seasons Division 8 champions, a season in which they were unbeaten and they are champions elect this season as they have won 16 out of 16 league games so far this season but Steelers shocked them as they came away with an excellent 2-0 win.

The game was played in awful conditions as the often gale force wind caused problems but fortunately it was blowing across the pitch so there was no real advantage to either side each half. The early exchanges were fairly even as both side tried to adapt to the conditions. Steelers were maybe a bit fortunate as Buddies had a goal disallowed. They were awarded a free kick about 25 yards out and when it was taken it flew into the net, the Buddies lads were all celebrating but the goal was disallowed by ref P Tufnell as he said that a player had his hand on the ball and kept in on when the kick was taken. A bit harsh maybe given the conditions but it remained 0-0. Tez Petterson then delivered a great defence splitting pass but Cameroonian George Eyole just failed to get on the end of and the ball was cleared. Kai Haig then fired just wide and then Buddies keeper Pete Gibbs make a great save when he palmed Eyoles shot onto the bar and Liam Anderson just failed to force the rebound home. Buddies then had a second goal disallowed when following a great shot that hit the underside of the bar the follow up was netted but the ref deemed the Buddies player had pushed it into the net with his arm, though the Buddies players claimed it was a Steelers player who had handled. Steelers keeper Darren Bowles then made a great save from a 1 and 1 and injured himself in  the process but was able to continue after treatment. Gibbs then made another fantastic save when Petterson played another great ball, this time to Anderson who was one on one with Gibbs who made a great block with his feet.

Anderson then had a shot blocked early in the second half after being played in by Eyole, and then Eyole had a great chance to put Steelers in front but fired well over. Steelers did take the lead soon after when Eyoles cross was met by Matty Stark and though Gibbs made another great save Anderson was on hand to fire home his 22nd goal of the season, a goal celebrated by both the Steelers and the watching Tap and Spile lads who were watching. Buddies then had a good chance to equalise but their players shot flew just over the angle of bar and post. Steelers then made it 2-0 when Petterson played another defence splitting ball that found Eyole and he hit an unstoppable rocket from just inside the area that flew into the net giving Gibbs no chance. Eyole was then mobbed by his teammate as if they had won the league. Eyole should have made it 3-0 just after when Anderson played him in but he rolled the ball wide of an open goal when it looked easier to score. The game was then slighty soured when Steelers Simon Treacher made a late tackle and was shown the red card. Their was no malice in the tackle and Treacher agreed he deserved to walk but a Buddies player decided he'd shove Treacher in the face and he was red carded too and a second Buddies player then walked too for dissent. It didn't affect the result as there were only a couple of minutes left which Steelers played out to record their 7th successive away win in the league.

Though this moved Steelers up to 2nd the only teams that can still catch Buddies are Tap n Spile and Seven Seas 2nd's. Steelers will definatley have a big say in the destination of the title as they have 3 games left, 2 v Tap n Spile and also a home game v Seas, so they may still do Buddies a big favour. Only a freak set of results in the remaining games will deny Buddies the silverware and they should be congratulated on such a long unbeaten run. Well done Buddies I think you will still be worthy champions.

Ref Paul Tuffnell had a great game too and in all 3 sending offs he was really given no other choice.

Its actually my alltime fave band mate, Stiff Little Fingers Don't think many on here will remember them but they're a punk band, formed in 1977 and still going strong today. Seem em live loads of times and they still kick arse now and wipe the floor with the shit in the charts now.
