Today, The black and whites travelled to Mount Pleasant to entertain division 7 strugglers Fiddler FC, in the reverse fixture baileys compounded the new comers to a 6-1 hammering in Fiddlers first game in sunday league.
The Baileys boys were hoping for more of the same this time out.
Some arrived a little worse for wear after enjoying a night out the previous evening. With quite a depleted side Baileys managed to field a strong side, Tony Ramsey returning in goal for Shaun Leightley, who was unavailable. Ian Smith replaced Anthony Siddle at right back as Andrew Mason took his place at left back for his debut to replace Craig Jackson, with Stacey Stratton moving to centre half to partner Matt Freudenberg. The Match started a little late as Fiddler hadnt brought a kit, and the manager departed to find a kit from somewere and he did return with a kit a little later, A minutes Silence was impeccably observed from both sides, as per usual on 11/11.
The Game kicked off and Baileys were playing some really good stuff, getting the full backs involved whenever possible, using either wings were Simpson and Townsend were looking to have an impact on the game, Baileys thought they had the lead when Barry Ramsey cooly took the ball down and slid the ball past the committed goal keeper, only for it to be ruled out for a dubious offside, which new left back Andy Mason vigorously contested. however the match restarted with a free-kick and the score at 0-0. Baileys Continued to press but shots were going astray non more so than Mason's highly ambitious 35 yard strike after the ball had been cleared, but sadly that effort was putting corner flags at risk!
With Half Time on the horizon, Central Midfielder Lee Vince broke forward and cooly slotted home a side footed effort from the edge of the 18 yard area past the hapless defenders and goal keeper.
As soon as they lined up for the restart the Stand in referee blew for the interval.
Baileys went in with good morale and a 1-0 lead.
The teams returned for the 2nd half with Baileys particularly eager to kill the game off.
1st 5 minutes of the second half went past with little incident but when Wes O'donovan showed some skill down the left side to reach the by-line to put in a quality low cross to Barry Ramsey who was galloping in at the back post to slide in and tuck in into the net for a 2-0 Baileys lead, It was more of the same as challenges were flying in and plenty of football was being played, suddenly after some very nice interplay from the fiddler midfield, The number 6 sped through after being put in, leaving the previously untroubled centre half partnership wanting and he cooly slotted in the the left of Tony Ramsey and Fiddler were back in the game.
What seemed straight after the kick off, Phil Pykett, who had come on in the first half for Pete Townsend after recieving a nasty gash to the knee, was through on goal, he saw the keeper charging towards him and delightfully chipped the ball over the despairing number 1 and Baileys had their 2 goal cushion back, soon after it was 4-1 as Wes O'donovan beat his defender, then took it round the keeper, then back onto his right foot and he blasted it past the defender on the line and the goal keeper who was returning to challenge. Baileys didnt wait long for a fifth as birthday boy Blake, who turned 21 on the saturday, celebrated with a goal after a bit of pin ball in the area he powered home from close range.
With 10 Minutes to go Dave Blastland made some changes with Blake and Debutant, Mason taking a breather, with Evison coming on at left back and Newens making an appearance as a second striker behind Ramsey. Towards the end the game got a little out of hand with plenty of stray tackles going in and obvious fouls being given away without the referee blowing up for free-kicks, Freudenberg ventured forward and with beautiful control by his left testicle, he unleashed the fury! only for the angle of post and bar to deny him, the rebound came down awkwardly for Ramsey and he poked over,The next chance came as Newens had a chance of a shot and after being caught in 2 minds he opted for the pass to Ramsey and over hit it by quite a margin.
However, The whistle went and it ended with a 5-1 away victory for Baileys Live FC with a performance which would have pleased manager Blastland and would have given him food for thought for when the other players return from their commitments.
