Mis v Gunners Watch Division 2
Stablemates Mortgage investment solutions and Gunners watch met at Bradley in this second division encounter and it really ended up as a no-contest as Gunners fiercely ripped into a hapless mis side. For after only 35 minutes Gunners had raced into a 7-0 lead at a canter.
Goal number one came after Darren Walton sent Bobby Lewsam away down the left channel; Lewsam cleverly tricked his marker before getting to the bye line and sending in an inch perfect pass for Drew McFadyen to steer home at the near post past keeper and ex Gunners Watch player Mark Smith.
Goal two again involved Walton and Lewsam, Waltons quick throw to Lewsam saw him find Will Chaplin who scored an absolute peach of a goal a 30 yard curler over Smith and into the top corner. on a rare ‘Mis’ sortie Ben Hammond saved well to keep his side two up.
Goal three came courtesy of McFadyen after good work by Danny Powers and the ever impressive Luke Marshall in midfield who was pulling all the strings, and in all honesty running the show; saw the ball end up with Chaplin who got behind his man to pull back for McFadyen to gleefully notch with the help of a slight deflection.
Mis at this time were all hands on deck as the relentless onslaught continued; Gunners really wanted the bragging rights back at the pub and goal number four came when Marshall was brought down on the left. Lewsam sent in a beauty which found the head of centre back Pete Briggs to nonchalantly power home from close range.
Mis to their credit kept plugging away but on the day they were being outclassed by a confident Gunners outfit that really were cock-a –hoop at this stage. Smith though kept his side going five down when in the 25th minute palmed away a ferocious Lewsam shot when the ball looked destined for the back of the net, but this reprieve didn’t last long when McFadyen raced through the middle almost unchallenged to smash home goal number five for his side and complete his own personal hat-trick.
Marshall then got in on the act by slamming home number six with the minimum of fuss. The 35th minutes saw a smashing goal from Darren Walton who from the edge of the box produced a neat curler into the opposite bottom corner of the net. A great confidence booster for the lad. The half time score of 7-0 was a true reflection on how this one sided half had gone.
After some changes to personnel at the interval from both sides, Mis made a great fight of it, although they did fall 8 behind when McFadyen raced down the right wing before crossing for Bobby Lewsam to fire home very much in the style of Everton’s Andy Johnson.
Mis were now sharing the possession but found the Gunners back four of Baldock, Briggs, Osborne and Forrest in impressive form. Though they did concede when a simple through ball caught them out. Otherwise this was a faultless display by the Gunners back line. Gunners Sub Darren Bloomfield, birthday boy, almost had the last say when his effort went just over the bar for the assistant manager.
The final thoughts of this game showed that if Gunners can put out a side every week which on occasions they have failed to do so then their long awaited glory quest maybe just around the corner.
Referee Mr. Steve Hall must be mentioned after a smashing display allowing the game to flow, one not noticing he was there, a good sign of a good referee.
