Redstar Smarts News Football Club welcomed a physical Drinksey Buildings side to Lucarlys in the Grimsby Sunday League Division 4 on a beautiul sunny yet frosty morning. The previous encounter ended in a highly entertaining 4 - 4 draw with Redstar dominating the 1st half and Drinksey's bossing the 2nd half and this game was almost an exact replica. The Smartsnews men were forced to change their usual 11 as Lee Ford was unavailable due to illness so pieman supreme Simon Chapple took his place just behind John Conroy with Gary Cox raring to go on the flank. Redstar went for the jugular from the off and signalled their intentions to rip into the back four with the more pacey Borrill, Cox and Mccann's quick feet. They broke through a couple of times and Mccann hit the crossbar twice but Drinksey's were always dangerous on the break but found most of their play broke down once they got past the halfway line due to the calmness of Redstar captain Dave Duff and his patner in crime Gavin Johnstone. Gary Cox was next to beat the Builder's offside trap but shot straight at the keeper and Luke Borrill suppfered a similar fate. At the other end Drinksey's played some good stuff to feet and Redstar keeper Marco Sotgiu had to be alert to hold onto a couple of efforts. Redstar broke the deadlock when player/manager Simon Chapple nutmegged his marker and burst into the penalty area with all the pace of a panic striken elephant before wrong footing the Drinksey keeper and prodding the ball into the opposite bottom corner. This was Chapple's 1st goal for 2 years and his teammates did not let him forget the fact as they buried him in the mud. 10 minutes later Redstar scored a controversial second goal when Ian Blackmore handled the ball in midfield. Referee John Love was unsighted though and waved play on so Borrill waltzed through and placed a low drive into the bottom corner. Redstar really should've been out of sight by the time the man in the middle blew for halftime and were made to pay for it in the 2nd 45 minutes. Drinksey's had a series of corners early on and eventually pulled a goal back when a flighted ball was flicked over the despairing punch of Sotgiu by the alert Willett. Redstar's head's dropped and Drinksey's sensed that they were there for the taking. They loaded the ball forward time and time again winning most of the airiel battles and the majority of 50/50 challenges. Redstar made their only change of the afternoon when big Si Chapple was replaced by the even bigger Snowy Edwards in a like for like swop. Sotgiu kept his side in the lead when he fingertipped a certain goal around the post but it came as no surprise when Drinksey's did level the scores when Jimmy Gibb broke to the byline and squared to the unmarked Smith who made no mistake. On 1 of Redstar's rare forages upfield, Borrill zipped clear and was upended by the advancing Drinksey's keeper to earn his side a penalty. John Conroy stepped up but struck the post with his placed effort but to be fair it would've been harsh on Drinksey's. Play soon shifted to the other end of the park yet again when Smith eluded his marker and with the ball breaking kindly for him he smashed an effort goalward. Sotgiu did well to get a hand to the ball after it took a wicked deflection off a defender and Darren Todd was on hand to scramble the ball into his own net and give Drinksey's a 3-2 lead. The final action was saved for injury time though as Danny Mccann was shoved as he rose for a header and Redstar were awarded a 2nd spot kick which leading scorer Gary Cox converted albeit with a helping hand from the Drinksey's keeper who made a good save initially before trying to gather and pushing the ball back over his own goal line. A 3-3 scoreline was a fair result after 90 minutes and the 2 teams have had 2 tremendous ding dongs this season played in sporting circumstances and a earned alot of respect for each other. Man of the match for Redstar was Ross Atmore who threw himself in the way of everything that came his way, with or without the ball !!!

End of the day your lad gave away the pen not ours. If he had been good enuff to win the ball 1st then you wouldve had 3 points. You take things far too seriously Gibbo and your so placid and sweet when we speak face to face smile/smilelove.gif
