Redstar Smarts News Football Club entertained Division 1 title chasers Seven Seas FC in the 4th round of the Lincs County Cup and despite a brave effort ended up on the wrong end of a 5 - 1 defeat. Everything about the Seas outfit oozed class and Redstar hardly got a sniff for the 1st 15 minutes. Redstar did have a goal ruled out for offside though on the break when Ian Blackmore steamed through to convert but  they fell behind after a foul by Captain Dave Duff in the area which resulted in Seas going 1 - 0 up which they took into the break. Another penalty after home keeper Marco Sotgiu clattered a Seas forward, and 2 own goals saw Redstar 4 - 0 down but they carried on battling in the desperatly muddy conditions and got their just reward when Gary Cox spun on a tenner and slammed the ball into the roof of the net after good work by Gav Johnstone. Player Manager Simon Chapple showed composure in midfield to perform his own version of a dieing swan but the Seas added a 5th goal with a powerful drive from near the byline late on in the game and the referee then brought precedings to an end. Make no mistake, Seas look like they mean business this term after coming so close to winning the league last season and on this showing will certainly take some beating in the cup competitions. Credit to the Smartsnews lads who never gave up and Lee Ford and Ross Atmore bouth got stuck in where it hurts. John Conroy ran his socks off up front but never got the run of the ball as Seas were quicker to everything and that was the difference, aswell as fitness,skill,composure,control and finishing. Sotgiu also played his part in keeping the score down in between the sticks for Redstar. Man of the Match for Redstar was Dave Duff, nominated by the Seas camp and Darren Todd was picked out by the Redstar management team.

chiffy a decent effort by your lads yesterday in the difficult conditions.can not remember playing on a pitch as bad as that for years.but all said and done your lads deserve a lot of credit for the fight they put up against us well done mate. i know i played at the back and me eyesight is nt very good as im getting on but never saw 2 og mate ? lol

Cheers for that Tez, we had our number 1 fullback and midfielder missing on hols so had to draft in a couple of non regulars but no excuses you wouldve beaten us whatever our line up. The 4th goal was an own goal aswell as the 1st mate so dont let anyone else claim it. Your fella shot and it was going straight at Soggy before it hit Goose and went in the other corner.

they were still going on target though chiff so they actually count as the players goals!!!

nah need to keep my goal tally going chiffy, if i missed i would of been sacked from taking them so i had to put it in the top bag.

we have to take it in turns until 1 of us misses because i was injured when we got 1 before so humbo took it, if you miss your out.
