MATCH REPORT ON CARPET EXPRESS V GUNNERS WATCH MEMORIAL CUP RD 1
Gunners arrived for a cup encounter V Carpet Express knowing it would not be an easy ride. Gunners went back to the tried and trusted 3-5-2 formation that have turned the results round this season, Gunners have been scoring freely at the moment and this formation was to reflect that. Gunners made a few changes, out went Forrest, Roberts and Chaplin, and keeper Mark Lodge with a broken Ankle and a welcome return for keeper Ben Hammond, Shane Walton, his brother Darren and Scott Blythe making his full debut.

Early indications looked like Gunners where under a bit of pressure as Carpet Express bossed the early stages of the match and used the wind to their advantage and where unlucky not to open the scoring when there forward broke twice on succession only to see two good equal saves from keeper Hammond. The ball flying around in the air was doing Gunners no favours and a flat back four was constantly being tested. Bobby Lewsam had a couple of chances and missed a one on one when it was easier to miss.

But twenty minutes in and Gunners scored, A perfectly weighted ball by Darren Walton found Lewsam who placed it in the right hand bottom corner as the oncoming keeper rushed out, A fine finish indeed. 1-0.After a couple of half chances either end, Gunners had a glorious opportunity to go two up, good play by Gig Gorden sent Luke Marshall away only to see the keeper save it.
As half time approached Gunners where beginning to get on top, and they managed to double there advantage after Osborne was felled in the area and the resulting penalty was dispatched by Luke Marshal. 2-0.  Gunners where soon 3 up as Shane Walton ran down the line to cross to Luke Marshall who volleyed home form the edge of the area. 3-0. Liam Baldock Made a half time appearance in the place of the struggling Briggs.

Within three minutes of the restart Gunners went four up to effectively sew up the game, some fine passing and movement fed livewire Luke Marshall who floated a ball over the defender to the onrushing Darren Walton who slid and stretched to smash the ball in passed a bewildered keeper.

Gunners where now passing the ball around with some panache and where probing at every opportunity. With the wind behind there backs Express where under a lot of pressure. Express’s keeper must be congratulated for making some excellent saves to keep the score down.
Gunner’s best goal was number five, a five man move found Shane Walton crossing it first time for the onrushing Luke Marshall to dive through the air to meet it like a missile to the top left corner with the keeper rooted to the spot.5-0 his second hat trick in 2 games.

Gunners made another substitution with Player Manager Mike Rouse entering the fray. Gunners then changed the formation to play three up front, and this had an immediate effect. Lewsam beat 2 defenders to square it to Mike’s right foot, who turned on a sixpence leaving two defenders for dead, and created space for his left foot to smash it in the top left hand corner of the net, much to the joy of his team mates. 6-0

Six  nil soon became seven when Bobby Lewsam ran at the defence to square to Mike “Rousealdo” Rouse who hit it first time with his right foot to the bottom right corner, which the keeper had no chance. 7-0

Carpet Express to their credit kept plugging away and effort like this must surely get its reward if it can continue. Gunners man of the match was Danny Power and young Chris Timpson can be highly recommended as a up and coming referee .

micks version :Within three minutes of the restart Gunners went four up to effectively sew up the game, some fine passing and movement fed livewire Luke Marshall who floated a ball over the defender to the onrushing Darren Walton who slid and stretched to smash the ball in passed a bewildered keeper.

Proper version a quick free kick from baldock to osborne , who played a one two with marshall, osborne then ran a futher 10 yards to place an inch perfect pass into fellow wingback walton's feet

jay burton sub for mike rouse !!!! hahahahahaha

Very good report, but i must ask the question, how can you praise the referee as an up and coming reff... he is the worst reff i have ever seen in all 10 years of playing..

He spoilt the game gave to many bookings 5 in total, to young to take control of a div 2, 3 game

we all have our own opinions, if u look at it as we won, i guess we thought he was good, u lost u didnt.
i thought a lot of tackles wer hard tackles ur guys didnt like it an wer moaning. there was a shocker on my midfield guy, he never pklayed this week because of it . we never moaned just got on with it.

if u care to rememeber he was gonna book ur defender for the peno decision i got him off that, so i thought he did well, he`s learning all the time.

one of my midfielders got booked , wot for for recieving a punch from ur guy, so wer does that leave us????????

no refs mate no games so stop moaning at em an moan at ur lot like i do my lot. let the refs do there bit players do theres it = a laff on a sunday morning

the first half was ok, But when a reff at half time tells me he's going to book lots of players in the second half its not on... A lot of your players agread and told me he was a joke,

in a few years he may be ok but i feel it was a step up to far from div 7-8 for the young lad and lost the game in the second half.

Its not often refferes ask players who we want to book as he did for your last booking on the sunday.
