Posted 15/11/2006 02:26:08 PM | | Redstar Smarts News Football Club went into their clash against Drinksey's Builders FC having tasted victory in their last 3 games but, despite leading 3-0 at 1 point, they were grateful in the end to grab a point in a 4-4 draw. Leading scorer Conroy was a noticable absentee for the Smarts Newsmen so player/manager Chapple stood in up top on his own to hold the ball up. Redstar hit Drinksey's on the break time and time again and it was only a matter of time till they took the lead and it came through the speedy Luke Borrill. The youngster then grabbed his 2nd goal of the game when he sped through a static backline to lob the advancing Drinksey's keeper. Danny Mccann then made it 3 when he slammed home after good work from Gary Cox at the byline. Drinksey's then won a penalty after a Nick Woods handball in the area which they cooley converted. Within 10 minutes of the 2nd half Drinksey's scored a fine header through Gibbs and the comeback was on. Danny Mccann had other ideas though as he surprised the keeper with a 1st time rocket which moved wickedly in the air before nestling in the onion bag. Still at 4-2 down Drinksey's piled on the pressure and gradually began to dominate the midfield area which Ian Blackmore had bossed in the 1st half for Redstar but unfortunatly for him and his teammates he had to give up for his replacement Mark Knowles who carried on the fight but through no fault of his own did not have the airiel presence to cope with what the big builder lads were throwing at him. Drinksey's soon pulled another goal back to signal their intent and with 15 minutes to go they finally got the equaliser their 2nd half possesion deserved when a corner played into the dangerzone went straight into the goal of Redstar keeper Marco Sotgiu despite his best efforts to keep it out. The final whistle blew much to the relief of the Redstar camp as it looked like there was only going to be 1 winner if the game had carried on. Judging by how both halves went, a draw was a fair result. If Redstar can start more games like that and Drinksey's can end more games like that then they will both be up in the promotion places come the end of the season.
