SW Cricketers travelled to Hardys Rec and beat Fiveways Fisheries 5-1 in The Memorial Cup.

Cricks had the perfect start as they took the lead in only the 2nd minute when Gaz Deakins and Nick Rook combined to give leading scorer Liam Anderson another goal which he finished well. Fiveways then had a couple of good chances to equalise but wayward finishing saw both chances off target. It was 2-0 10 minutes later when Fiveways failed to clear a corner and Rook turned in the box and fired a shot past the Fiveways keeper and then Gaz Deakins fired just wide after a strong run from midfield. It looked like Anderson would make it 3-0 but after taking the ball round the keeper he stumbled and the chance was gone.

Fiveways changed their goalkeeper at half time and Nathan Thompson  had 2 great chances at the start of the 2nd half but fired narrowly over and then just wide before Rook set up Anderson for number 3 and he finished in superb fashion with an unstoppable shot past the substitute keeper. Moments later and it was 4 when again Rook and Anderson combined and Anderson again showed what a great finisher he is with another rasping finish which gave the keeper no chance. Rook then notched number 5 when he finished off a fine passing move by Cricks. Darren Bowles in The Cricks goal had had a quiet game but had to be alert to thwart a couple of Fiveways attacks. Rook then thumped a header against the bar, Simon Treacher headed just over from a corner and Gaz Deakins saw his long range effort saved. Fiveways then grabbed a consolation goal when their forward seized upon a error in the Cricks defence and showed great composure to round Bowles and slot the ball into an empty net. Anderson then missed his easiest chance of the match when he somehow managed to miss his header from virtually on the goalline. Sub Glyn Benbow then unselfishly decided to set up a teammate but failed to find one of the 3 Cricks players waiting in the area and then fellow sub Terry Petterson fizzed a shot straight at the keeper from 25 yards but Cricks could not add to their 5 goals.
