Redstar Smarts News Football Club maintained their 100% Division 4 home record at Lucarlys with a 4 - 1 victory over bottom club Fairdeal Carpets. Redstar were without number 1 keeper Marco Sotgiu who was away in Italy on international duty so in came Darren Todd between the sticks. Fullback Nick Woods was also a major abscentee so Mark Broderick slotted in at right back. The game was quite even in the opening half hour mainly due to poor finishing as Redstar exploited the older heads in the carpets back 4 but poor finishing let them down after missing a couple of 1 on 1's. At the other end, Fairdeal won the majority of set pieces but just like the home side could not find the net. Redstar took the lead after Luke Borrill was put clean through by John Conroy. The nippy winger sped into the area, rounded the keeper and slotted home. Just before halftime the scoreline was doubled when a long ball was not dealt with by the gangly Fairdeal centreback and Gary Cox beat him to the bounce to lob over the outcoming Fairdeal keeper. It wasnt all 1 way traffic though as Fairdeal should really have got a goal in the 1st period but could not find a way past Todd who was majestic all game. 2 more goals finished the game as a contest with Conroy grabbing both after good work by Cox on the flank set him up for his 1st, then a Ross Atmore through ball started the move which ended up with Conroy controlling the ball and slotting past the despairing keeper for 4 - 0. Fairdeal did finally get a goal their efforts deserved and it was no surprise that a set pirce was swung in and missed by everybody apart from a swinging Fairdeal boot at the back post that put it back across goal and into the opposite bottom corner. Ian Blackmore ran himself into the ground as the holding midfielder for Redstar and was abely backed up on both sides by Gavin Johnstone and Danny Mccann. Dave Duff and Snowy Edwards made most things happen at the back but Darren Todd in the Redstar goal was Man of the Match.
