Posted 19/09/2006 02:05:56 PM | | SW Cricketers travelled to Roval Drive to take on FC Locomotive Old Boys in Division 7 and came away with a 3-0 win though with steadier finishing it could have been a lot more. Manager Steve Wraith had 18 players to choose from so there were understandably a few who were not happy but these players must realise that its not easy keeping an entire squad happy all season. Steve kept almost the same starting 11 as faced Tilted Barrel last week with only the returning Simon Treacher and Sean McCall in for Tez Petterson and Reece Baumber who were unavailable.
Cricks were soon into their stride and were creating chance after chance but Gaz Deakins, Gary MacNaught and Nick Rook were all guilty of spurning good chances and in fact it was Locomotive who should have gone into the break ahead when a shot from their forward was blocked by his own man.
The second half started as a more even affair and half way though the score was still 0-0 but Locomotive began to tire and Cricks stepped up a gear to clinch the win. Firstly Liam Anderson hit a great shot from distance which the keeper was unable to hold and Rook was on hand to smash the ball home. Then soon after Cricks were awarded a free kick and when Gaz Deakins floated the ball into the area Simon Treacher headed goalward, the keeper got his hand to the ball but Rook was on hand again to fire home for a quick fire double. Mark Smith was always alert and had to be to thwart a rare Locomotive attack then sub Glyn Benbow thought he had made it 3 but the keeper somehow stopped his shot after he was played in by a great ball from Anderson. It was Anderson who got the 3rd with virtually the last kick of the game when he struck a cracking shot from 25yards which beat the keeper all ends up.
Ref Mick Kendrick had a great game too but apart from a couple of quite words had very little to do.
