Posted 21/04/2008 06:39:04 PM | | New West Marsh moved another step closer to clinching promotion from Division 3 with a well deserved 4-1 win against a resilient Bailey's at Bradley.
The pitch was poor to say the least but both sides tried to play some decent football but there was some scrappy play early on.
Marsh scored when the lively Cook burst down the left and found Witts in the box, but a mistimed tackle led to a penalty which top scorer Carlile converted.
Marsh began to play some good stuff, especially in midfield where Cass and Gaynard were dominent.
Carlilealmost increased their lead with a free kick but his effort struck the crossbar with the keeper beaten.
A second goal came from a corner. After a good save, the Baileys keeper had no chance when the veteren Vivins crashed a left foot shot home from an acute angle.
Bailey's had a decent spell after this and Billings in the Marsh goal made a good save after a long range strike. They did manage to pull a goal back when a high, hanging free kick eluded everyone, struck the bar, and was headed home from close range.
Marsh started teh 2nd half well and went close a couple of times but they could not find that elusive 3rd goal. They looked solid though, with Crawford and Vivins dealing with everything.
Eventually the 3rd goal came and it was courtesy of a ling clearance from Billings which caught Bailey's napping and Carlile was left with the task of lobbing the keeper.
Marsh introduced Jimmy Flowers on the left which took them to another level and it was no surprise when Andy Cook skipped away and drove the ball home to round off a good all round display.
New West Marsh named Cook as Man of the Match followed closely by Cass.
Referee Steve Wright had a sound game.
