MATCH REPORT ON GUNNERS WATCH V ETHERINGTON ARMS FC   DIV 3

Gunners Watch and Etherington Arms really produced the fireworks with a display of super attacking football, with a no holds barred attitude, which had the large 50 + crowd spell bound and mesmerized as the goals flew in.

Both sides where reminiscent of two bare fisted fighters standing toe to toe with neither team throwing the towel in.
Arms took the lead after only ten minutes with a fine individual goal by the Arms left winger easily beating two defenders before unleashing a cracking shot which flew into the Gunners net 0-1.

The Gunners response was immediate an inch perfect pass by Shane Walton released the speedy Chaplin who rounded the oncoming keeper to squeeze the ball home from an acute angle, 1-1.

Gunners then went on the rampage and took control of the game and scored a quick two goals in succession, firstly Bobby Lewsam produced some breathtaking skill beating 2 defenders before chipping the ball in to the path of partner Chaplin to score his second of the game.2-1. Minutes later it was 3-1 with the impressive Chaplin who completed his hat trick inside 20 minutes after slamming home a McKenzie pass.
The end to end stuff continued and with in 10 mins of going 3-1 up, Gunners where pegged back level after two glaring mistakes by the midfield who where simply wasting the ball, and inviting Arms strikers to shoot at will.

The half hour mark saw the score at 3-3 and Gunners defender (Angel of the North) Steve Hutterby was replaced by Daz Bloomfield after an injury. With both defenses having there own private competition of who could concede the most, half time came. With both managers looking shell shocked.
The second half continued in very much the same vein as the first with both sides hell bent on scoring, fantastic for the supporters but heart attack country for management.
Within a minute of the restart the exciting new boy Aidy Bolton fed Walton who gave a defence splitting pass for Chaplin to notch his fourth with a low drive under the despairing keeper 4-3. A further through ball found Lewsam who raced clear from the defence to easily fire home from the edge of the box 5-3.
5-3 soon turned into 5-4 after yet another lapse of concentration in the Gunners rearguard. The enthusiastic crowd where loving it, both side where dishing up football well worth an entrance fee.
15 mins from time saw an injury to McKenzie who had, had a fine game, be replaced by youngster Shaun Wilson, whilst minutes early Schofield had replaced Maddocks, between them they combined well before Schofield found Lewsam on the edge of the box; Lewsam made himself a yard, before dispatching a low hard drive into the bottom corner6-3.

Danny Power standing in as the Gunners keeper made a couple of super saves to keep his team in the game but back came Etherington to make it 6-5 after a superb headed goal by Chamberlin following a fine cross from the left, Gunners should of scored again only for Lewsam to clear the ball of the line when all he had to do was side step out the way.
In the third minute of injury time Arms almost snatched a point when a midfielder cracked a 25 yarder against the Gunners post with the helpless powers looking anxiously.

Gunners would like to thank the stand in referee (as know one turned up) Valiant FC manager Mr. Trevor Lovell, he was honest and fair in a  very good fast an furious game of football both teams shook his hand at the end well, done Trevor.

mick you seem to have forgot to mention Bobby nearly taking Robbos head off! remember the broken face? haha best bit about the game was the stand up comedy provided by yourself on the touch line!

i never played in a game like it before and probably never will again. everytime one of us went forward it looked like there was going to be a goal! not a good game to be a defender or a keeper!!!
