Clee RNA's goal-shy start to the season in division 6 continued but they managed to beat Ulceby Utd 2-0. Buoyed by the services of a sober Stuart Deans for the first time this year, RNA took the game to the opposition with the aforementioned midfielder looking particularly sharp after shedding several pounds during a brisk work out behind the changing rooms prior to the start.
Enjoying nearly complete domination, the nearest RNA came to scoring was from SIMON CHAPPLE'S shot that hit the bar.
The deadlock was broken before half time when Ian Hallam picked up a loose ball in the Ulceby box before striking the ball into the bottom corner.
A combination of poor final ball and a lack of movement as well as a resolute Ulceby rearguard saw RNA unable to make the game safe until midway through the second half.
This time it was sweeper Lee Hallam, who evaded challenges in a searing run, before seeing his chip hit the underside of the bar.
Fortunatly for RNA, Kevin Swaine was on hand to put away the rebound.
Deans hit the bar with another long distance effort, but still RNA failed to punish their opponents.
At the other end Ulceby went close with a header, finally rousing the deckchair bound custodian of the RNA goal, Chris Radley, from one of the quieter days of his illustrious career.
As the match drifted towards its conclusion, RNA were heartened by the return from injury of gamekeeper turned poacher Mark Cousins, whose performance in the last five minuted suggest that the 'Baron of Blubber' has lost none f his lightning pace and touch which has terrorised defences throughout last season.
